Discovering Computers
"Learn it Online" Assignments
(DC "Learn it Online" Cover Sheet)

You will be responsible for 10 assignments (5 points each) from your  Discovering Computers (DC) textbook for a total of 50 points  towards your "DC Assignments" grade. You may pick any ten assignments from the table below (with at least one per chapter) from the "Learn it Online" section at the end of chapters 1 - 8 in your Discovering Computers book. The categories in the first column of the table below will be the same for each chapter. The second column tells you what you should submit to your instructor on the assignment due date. You may NOT submit the SAME assignment twice from the same chapter (i.e.: I will NOT accept two practice tests from the SAME chapter or two Wheel of Terms games from the SAME chapter).

CoursePort (http://login.course.com) provides a central location from which you can access Course Technology’s online learning resources with a click of the mouse. From the link above, click the New User Registration link and follow the onscreen instructions to complete your registration.  Using your personalized home page at CoursePort, you can easily access the Online Companions for your Discovering Computer textbook, and keep track of the work you do there. You can do this all with a single password, from a centralized location. And not only can you use CoursePort to track and review data about your progress in a course, you can share that data with your instructor!

Once you're in CoursePort and you've chosen the correct DC online companion, click the "Learn it Online" link. The games are typically the easiest (Computer Genius and Wheel of Terms) to complete. You may have to read the instructions, however, to play correctly and achieve a passing score..:).  Be sure to play all rounds to ensure full credit. The Crossword puzzle is probably the best test of your keyword knowledge.  Scavenger Hunt, Career Corner, Search Sleuth, etc. require a bit of research and a brief write-up (1 - 2 paragraphs, along your name and the URL to your findings).

Print your final grade report and highlight items as necessary to hand in on the due date. Printouts of items not on the CoursePort grade report should be labeled (typed) with your name and detailed assignment information (chapter number and item number/description) and submitted with the DC Learn it Online Cover Sheet the day of the DC 5 - 8 exam (see your schedule for due dates).  Additional Learn it Online assignments above and beyond the required ten assignments can be turned in for Extra Credit with your DC Assignments/ Coversheet (make sure they are labeled correctly as well and included at the end of the packet).
