Adrenafilm
Another book about hong kong cinema, this one written by Lisa Stokes
and Michael Hoover. Of course, the overly familiar classics from John
Woo to Jackie Chan are being celebrated; besides that, however, people
like Wong-Kar Wai or Ann Hui are being examined and the films are placed
in a socio-cultural context. Another focus is on the economic conditions
under which Hong Kong films are produced. All texts are written fluently
and are informative; obviously, the two authors have done their
homework. As a bonus: an index, and many, many pictures.
